Face of Education System in Indonesia

I say this not mean cognitive education is not important, not like that!

I mean, character education is important as a counterweight cognitive skills. Some of the fact that we often encounter together, a wealthy businessman it is not generous, a politician did not even care about the neighbors who are starving, or a teacher it is not concerned about the street children who do not get a chance to learn in school. It is evidence of the lack of balance between the cognitive and educational character education.

There is a proverb says, science without religion is blind, and religion without science is lame. Also means that the same cognitive education without character education is blind. As a result, because the blind can not walk, even with the origin of crashing. If running with a stick will run slowly. Conversely, knowledge without character of cognitive knowledge, it will be paralyzed so easily driven, exploited and controlled others. To that end, it is important to not ignore students' character education. So what's the karaker education?

Firmness is the durability of the students in realizing what is considered to be good. And fidelity marupakan basic respect for the commitment chosen.

Character education is important for education in Indonesia. Character education will be basic or basic quality in the formation of the nation's character, which does not ignore social values such as tolerance, solidarity, mutual cooperation, mutual help and mengormati and so on. Education will bear personal character that not only have superior cognitive ability but has a character that is able to realize success.

Based on research at Harvard University USA, turns a person's success is not solely determined by the knowledge and technical ability and kognisinyan (hard skills), but rather by the ability to manage themselves and others (soft skills). This study reveals, success is determined only about 20 percent of the hard skills and the remaining 80 percent by the soft skills. And, skills soft skills is formed through the implementation of the characters in the education of students.

Based on the four basic traits of character education above, we can apply the pattern of education provided to students. Misalanya, gives understanding to discuss the good and bad things, provide opportunities and opportunities to develop and explore their potentials as well as appreciation for its potential, to respect the decision and support children in making decisions for themselves, instilling in students the meaning keajekan and responsible and committed to his choice. In my opinion, the most important fact is not pilihannnya, but the ability to choose us and our responsibility for our choices, namely by way of committing to that option.

Character education in the curriculum should be formulated, implemented method of education, and practice in learning. Moreover, in a family environment and surrounding communities should also be applied pattern of character education. By doing so, Indonesia nan generations ahead will be born of character education system.
